Jen & Pat’s Country Wedding - Maritime Wedding Photographer

Buckle up for one of my most epic wedding blog posts yet. Today we’re heading to Miramichi for Jen & Pat’s wedding. They’re a dynamic duo who also work as wedding photographers / videographers, and I had the honour of being chosen to capture their day! Obviously shooting for someone else in the industry has both ups and downs. The down, of course, being that you know you can’t hide much from them, because they know what the deal is. Gotta know what you’re doing! The upside being they know what the deal is: that you really have to just GO WITH IT to get the Truly great photos. You need to embrace the day, the moment, and when time allows, lead where the light takes you. And boy did we ever. But I’m getting a little ahead of myself here.

Back to the storytelling…

We start our day with Jen’s crew getting ready her mom’s place. By the time I arrived the house was just abuzz with hair and makeup and snapchat posting (hey, live it up however you want).

When I went outside to take some photos with the dress, some hummingbirds came to join me, so make sure you zoom in on that one!

After everyone was ready we stepped out into the field just outside the house for a few quick photos together. The atmosphere of the soft tall grass was just perfect.

Then it was time for first looks, maybe a little hitchhiking (for an Expected car), and last minute preparations for the ceremony as Pat got his cinema camera ready to record. We found we still had a few minutes to spare, so we ran off into the woods. Just walked into a trail and chased the light and ended up finding some amazing shots!

After our more ‘formal photos’ of the wedding party and families (okay, it didn’t stay formal for long), it was finally time for the ceremony. To start things out, the wolf pack lead the pack down the aisle.

After the ceremony everyone gathered in for photos and congratulations, then we escaped once more to spend a little time with the second family: the dogs, goats, and chickens. They were all pretty happy to see us, even if the chickens weren’t the Best at posing for the camera.

Next we wanted to catch the sunset on the river. A short ride in a gorgeous classic car, then a short hike through the woods found us by a small section of the river at just the perfect time for some golden hour photos.

And wow was I glad we made that jaunt to get there! I thought we had already captured some really great moments, but the sunset on the river was really one for the books. So many epic photos (way more than you see here!). After that it was time to head back to the house for the first dances.

After the dances it was time to cut the cake, and the usual fancy knife was nowhere to be found. “What are we gonna do?”
Me: “…got a katana kicking around somewhere?”
”YES I HAVE A KATANA I’LL BE RIGHT BACK.”
”How did you know he had a katana?”
”Just an educated guess. Go big or go home, right?”

You’ve gotta own it, and make it Your day, in every way you can ;)

Whew, what an amazing day! Time for the long drive back from Miramichi, and cull through probably 4500 photos captured that day.

Congratulations, Jen & Pat, and thank you so much for the privilege of capturing your amazing wedding day!
